Chai Tea

The method begins by creating a mix of the ground spices and tea leaves, then combining 2 teaspoons of this mix with boiling water in a small saucepan. Add honey and heat until nearly boiling, then let it sit off the heat for the flavors to infuse. Add milk and bring the mixture nearly to boiling again, let it sit for a few minutes, then serve. The preparation takes only a few minutes, providing a flavorful and soothing beverage at the end.
Ingredients
- 4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1⁄2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1⁄2 tsp ground fennel
- 1⁄2 tsp ground cloves
- 1⁄4 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbs black tea leaves
Directions
1. Mix your ground spices and tea together in a jar.
2. To make the tea, do the following:
- Add 2 teaspoons of your spice-tea mix to a saucepan with a bit of boiling water.
- Add the rest of the water and some honey.
- Heat it up until it's almost boiling, then take off the heat and let it sit for a bit to let the flavors come out.
3. Next, add milk to the saucepan and heat until it's nearly boiling, then remove from heat. Let it sit a little before pouring into cups. You can sprinkle some cinnamon on top when you serve it.
4. If you want to use roasted whole spices to make fresh tea, follow these steps:
- Heat up 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, 10 cardamom pods (or 1/2 teaspoon cardamom seeds), 1 teaspoon black peppercorns, 4 star anise, and 2 broken cinnamon quills in a small pan for a few minutes.
- Mix these toasted spices with 2 tablespoons of grated ginger and 2 tablespoons of black tea.
- Store this mix in the fridge or freezer in a glass jar.
- To make tea with this mix, add 1 tablespoon of it to hot water and honey, then follow the steps from step 2.
